How to Select a Gun Safe

Think through your needs.
You are buying a safe for security so you want one that will bolt to the floor. Also you may want to consider a fire proof gun safe. You may prefer the traditional combination lock or be more comfortable with an electronic lock.

Inventory your gear. Think through everything you want to store. Don't just count your guns but think about all your equipment like knives and game calls.

Select the best size.
Where will you put your new gun safe? Measure your space. Ideally, you want to buy a safe large enough to provide room for future purchases. If you are buying a safe just for handguns, you may still want extra space for a few other valuables.

Cushioning counts
You will want a carpeted interior and cushioned barrel rests to prevent scratches and nicks. These features also allow you to store your firearms without making a great deal of noise. Also a flush floor is a great feature, to avoid any marks on your guns' stocks.

Make Sure the interior storage areas work for you.
You want to have some adjustable shelving and possibly a floor compartment for small guns, ammo or cleaning materials. Hooks and bungee cords will keep your long guns secure and perhaps you want an ammo box with a key lock.
